I visited the Quay to Health at Southampton having been to my GP, who put me on a contraceptive pill which had the side effects from hell. A friend of mine recommended the Quay to Health as she'd found her GP less than willing to find a pill that suited her, insisting that "there's no real difference". Sadly, my GP gave me the impression that they were far too busy to be bothered about questions about contraceptive pills!!!

I was really nervous about contraception having had horrible side effects in the past, but very motivated not to get pregnant! I now go there regularly, and the nurses and docs are absolutely lovely. They really take their time and explain everything. Having taken a quick but careful medical history (I've had hormone problems in the past not related to contraception, which meant some pills and hormonal methods of contraception were less suitable to me than others). With a 10 minute chat, they quickly found a pill that was going to suit me and helped me feel confident that I was making the right decision. They also said to call on the telephone if I had any problems or questions (and if you call during clinic times, they are indeed available!) I felt respected and listened to and empowered to make decisions about my sexual health.

They're lovely - real stars of the NHS! Hope they read this! :)
