Hello,
A little while ago I used the services of a mediator regarding a dispute with a neighbour. It was mentioned at the time that the mediators were considering using mediation as part of the complaints process with the local Health Board.
I personally think that that is a very good way forward simply because as soon as lawyers are mentioned everyone is on the defensive and nothing is ever solved.
Personally all I have ever wanted is to get my illness sorted out and this has taken fifteen years. Mistakes have been made by the NHS but some of the doctors are young student doctors and many are foreign and don't always speak good english so things are lost in translation.
I needed desperately to talk to someone to explain my concerns and it just didn't happen. My G.P. was too pushed for time as where the Consultants so mediation would have have been an excellent way forward. The other thing which I have heard of is offering compensation when things have gone wrong.
Most people don't want to go through the legal process..it takes too long and it is very expensive so perhaps it would be a good way forward and then things could be improved and lessons learnt.
