There are so many complaints flying around about the state of some hospitals - quite right in some cases (Portsmouth St Marys where my daughter was born springs to my mind - never again) - but some hospitals are far better than the average. I had minor surgery at Newark hospital in Nottinghamshire recently and found it to be excellent. The referral from the GP was very fast, the hospital was clean, the nurses were dilligent and always had time to explain what was going on. I don't know about the doctors, as I was a day case and so only saw the surgical team. It helps, of course, that Newark is a small non-teaching hospital, but I would be happy to go there again. Rather not have to have surgery, of course, but there you go.
