Sorry to hear about your gran. I hope by now she has had her CT scan, although with my experience of the NHS I wouldn't be surprised to hear that it hasn't been done yet. I think that wherever you are in the UK, the NHS is grinding to a halt. I must admit I'm surprised that it only took from 5pm to 7pm to get her a bed - two hours by NHS standards seems quick to me!

By coincidence I had to travel to London for an NHS appointment today, only to find that my journey was a complete waste of time as when I got to the clinic the test results couldn't be found (I was assured they were not lost, yeah right). This involved me in unnecessary train and bus fares and as I pointed out to the doctor - if I hadn't turned up, I would have received a narky note from the hospital reprimanding me for wasting scarce NHS resources. However, there's no such thing as recompensing me for my travel and time.

The NHS is a complete shambles and even if we were paying tax at 95% it wouldn't be any better.

Dear Load [etc.] ---

A two hour wait for a bed? Gosh you should have the misfortune of going to the Worcestershire Royal Infirmary.

When my wife was admitted with pneumonia (in both lungs) she spent from the early morning until the early evening on a gurney in A&E. The gurneys are only made for short-term use, and are very uncomfortable.

I didn't complain for hours, and even then I didn't demand a room (heck, if they don't have a room they don't have one). I just wanted a more comfortable short-term solution for my wife.

I offered to have one of our farm employees go to one of those hospital bed rental companies and rent a bed for my wife: my theory was that the bed would be more comfortable than the gurney, and would take up the same amount of space.

A room was then located.

Just out of curiosity, when did your grandmother finally get her CT scan? It's one thing to criticise the NHS here --- they're a big target --- but it would also be nice to know how matters turned out.

Thank you for taking the time to register on this forum and letting us know about your gran's experiences. I hope she's feeling much better now.
